2nd March 2025
To commemorate the 170th anniversary of the death of Mr John Exton, one of the principle benefactors of our church in Melton, the Friends of St John's distributed silver chocolate coins after Mass on Sunday.
John Exton, of Eastwell, was known as the Silver Squire because of his great generosity in giving silver coins to the poor of the town.
It is fitting that this year the parish is rebuilding it's parish hall on the original site next to the church. We hope to be inspired by his generosity by using the hall to offer free meals to the disadvantaged and to build up the church community which he helped to start here.
The Friend's of St John's Church is charity whose aims include promoting awareness of the church's history and supporting the preservation and conservation of the historic church.
