On Monday, Father Tom blessed the building site, and builders, as work starts on the construction of the new parish and community hall.
Father Tom used his homily for the Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time to talk about the start of the project.
“There is that saying in scripture and we must not forget it, if the Lord does not build, nothing is going to take place. I have faith, and hope, that the Lord has heard our prayers and is continuing to hear them and that which starts tomorrow will be realised and accomplished for the benefit of the church in Melton Mowbray. That is hugely important, if we believe in the Gospel, that is what we are about in this, not a showpiece for the architectural benefit of the town, however important that may be, but it is about building the kingdom of God here in this place for now, and for the generation to come. Blessed is the man who has placed his trust in the Lord.”
The project to build a new parish and community hall alongside the existing church of St John the Baptist on Thorpe End, Melton Mowbray, is to serve the needs of the parish and provide facilities to the wider community.
