Volunteer with us
There are many practical and administrative jobs which have to be done to keep our social groups and parish running smoothly. Whatever your skills please consider offering a little of your time. All volunteers are covered by our safeguarding policy.
If you have any questions about volunteering, or suggestions on how you can use your skills, please contact the parish administrator stjohn.melton@dioceseofnottingham.uk
Current opportunities
Parish choir
We are heading into what is always a busy part of the year for music and singing in Mass and in Church. The choir are starting to plan for the autumn and dare I say it the Christmas period. We will be singing Carols again at the Christmas Tree festival this year and also we have been asked to host the LACY Big Sing at the convent in November. We would like to be able to guarantee two full sung masses with the organ in the Parish each month, one at St John's on a Saturday evening and one at St Francis on a Sunday morning; plus people leading the singing of hymns at each Mass. So we continue to welcome new members and we do continue to grow. If you are interested in coming along even if it is just for the autumn and Christmas season do get in touch or come to the Convent at 6.15 on a Thursday evening where we practice. We would love to see and hear you - no need to be an expert!

We need Grants and you can help
You don’t need to be a member of our congregation. You can even do it from a distance. All you need is an armchair and a tablet, a laptop or a desktop, and you can search online to find new grants for which we are eligible. You don’t have to apply for them yourself -although if you can, that’s great, but just finding them and checking our eligibility will be an enormous help to our Grants group. We’ll give you an online virtual hug!

Looking to turn your concern for the less fortunate in our community into ACTION?
If so, then the St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) could be the answer to your prayers!
We are the friendly local branch of an international Christian voluntary organisation dedicated to tackling poverty in all its forms. The essence of our work focusses on befriending vulnerable or isolated people across our community and offering them both friendship and practical support.
Whilst our founder St Vincent de Paul was Catholic, you don't have to be to join us. The time commitment is flexible too. Perfect!
